The Savannah Music Festival (SMF) is Georgia's largest musical arts festival. The festival is a cross-genre event that celebrates both the musical heritage of the South and international musicians. The festival is held annually over eighteen consecutive days in spring in Savannah, Georgia. Gullah Festival of South Carolina, Beaufort SC May 26 to 28, 2012

The Gullah are African Americans who live in the Low country region of South Carolina and Georgia, which includes both the coastal plain and the Sea Islands. The Gullah people are also called Geechee, after the Ogeechee River near Savannah, Georgia. The term Geechee is more commonly used in Georgia. The Gullah people are known for preserving more of their African linguistic and cultural heritage than any other African-American community in the United States. They speak an English-based Creole language containing many African loanwords and significant. Gullah storytelling, cuisine, music, folk beliefs, crafts, farming and fishing traditions, all exhibit strong influences from West and Central African cultures, all well represented in various forms at the Gullah festival. http://www.gullahfestival.org/

Spoleto Festival USA, Charleston SC May 27 to June 10, 2012

Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston, South Carolina, is one of the world's major performing arts festivals. It was founded in 1977 by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gian Carlo Menotti , Christopher Keene and others who sought to establish a counterpart to the Festival Dei Due Mondi (the Festival of Two Worlds) in Spoleto, Italy. The annual 17-day event showcases both established and emerging artists in more than 120 performances of opera, dance, theater, classical music, and jazz.
