Golfon, a metaphor for 'keep golfing', was named by its founder David Paterson, a Scot with
longstanding career in Professional Golf.
Golfon International, established in 1980 grew from Paterson willingly handing out advice to golfers
planning a trip to Scotland on where to play and where to stay.
Paterson, the son of golf professional, grew up in Scotland where, along with three brothers, he
spent endless summer days playing the sport and learning the game. Following his father's
footsteps he joined the Pro ranks as top Assistant Professional at the world famous Turnberry
Hotel, home of the Open Championship Ailsa Course. After four valuable and instructive years at
Turnberry, he became head professional at the Riddell's Bay Golf & Country Club in Bermuda.
Pursuing his ambition to play professionally in the USA, he spent two summers on the PGA Tour as
a British PGA guest which led to permanent residence in the US and a club professional career.
After five years as head professional at the Country Club of Fairfield in Connecticut, he became
Director of Golf and Head Varsity Coach at Yale University Golf Course in New Haven, CT and
served the Yale golf community successfully for thirty-three years. On his retirement a new high-
tech golf center was built at Yale and dedicated in his name.
From giving simple advice a business of designing and marketing golf tours was born. Over the
years many satisfied clients have enjoyed Golfon's adventures to golf destinations around the
world, Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Bermuda, Portugal, Morocco, South
Africa, Australia, New Zealand and, of course, many destinations in the USA including South
Carolina, New Mexico and North Dakota, Oregon and Michigan. Some of Golfon's tours are
escorted by David Paterson and his wife Angela during which participants receive as a bonus the
benefit of his expert golf instruction. Now residing on Spring Island, near Beaufort SC, the
Patersons invite you stop in the Low country for a game of golf.
